Hindi katanggap-tanggap na umaabot ng ilang milyon ang sahod ng mga opisyal ng Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) habang ang iba gaya ng sahod ng mga guro ay hindi man lamang nakakasapat sa pang araw araw na gastuhin, ayon kay ACT Teachers Partylist Rep. France Castro.
Ang pahayag ni Castro ay bilang reaksyon sa ipinalabas na report ng Commission on Audit (COA) na nagsasabing ang mga opisyal ng BSP ang highest paid kung saan si BSP Governor Eli Remolona Jr ang siyang nangunguna sa highest-paid official na may gross salaries at allowances sa taong 2023 na umabot ng P35,478,813.42.
“It is utterly unacceptable that BSP Governor Eli Remolona Jr. takes home a net pay of P35.48 million, while our teachers are forced to live on a meager salary that is way below the poverty line,” pahayag ni Castro.
“We cannot continue to neglect the welfare of our teachers, the backbone of our education system. It’s time for the government to prioritize their needs and provide them with a decent salary that reflects their value to society,” dagdag pa nito.
Kasabay nito, umapela muli si ACT Teachers Rep. Antonio Tinio sa gobyerno na panahon na para taasan ang sahod ng mga guro at mga empleyado.
Hiniling ni Tinio na gawin P50,000 ang entry-level pay sa public at private schools; P33,000 sa salary grade 1 employees, SG16 salary grade sa instructor 1 sa state universities at colleges habang gawin nang P33,000 ang national minimum wage.
“As of now, the entry-level ng public school teacher (SG 11) is P402,000 a year, and the entry-level of a government employee (SG 1) is P206,000 a year, but the highest government official is P35.48 million a year. This is 88 times higher than a teacher’s salary or 172 times higher than an employee’s salary,” paliwanag ni Tinio.
Iginiit ng ACT Teachers na panahon na para tignan ang interes ng mga nakararami sa halip na ang mga mayayaman na lalo lamang yumayaman.
